For many years this block housed a plumbing business at the rear and a dwelling in the front. When the owners decided to move their business, they considered redevelopment opportunities for the site.
Marcus O’Reilly Architects was asked to scope out what could be achieved. A residential development was the obvious choice as the area is close to public transport and amenities and there is strong demand. Marcus designed a tiered three storey block. All apartments feature a northerly aspect, promoting solar gain in winter. Living areas and bedrooms have adjacent balconies for relaxed indoor-outdoor living. Native plants to the exterior of the building will help enhance the streetscape and improve the micro-climate around the building in summer and winter.
While they decided to sell rather than redevelop the site, the plans for three levels of one- and two- bedroom apartments clearly added to the value of the site.
